Cowboys Resign Jonathan Hankins

Jonathan Hankins is one big boi!

A big off season move, in both need and size of player, is that of signing DT Jonathan Hankins. It’s a one year deal reportedly worth $1.5m, which when you consider Carlos Watkins is now a Cardinal, it seems like a great price for a high position of need.

I like this for one main reason; Hankins helps to put a solid bandaid on a position that otherwise would need to be a high draft pick focus target. With Hankins signing, this is no longer a short term need.

That makes offensive line, wide reciever, or running back, depending who’s available, as the clear cut position pick at 26th.

Jayron Beats Micah For Number Zero

The lionbacker doesn’t lose often, but due to seniority, Jayron Kearse will be wearing number 0 for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.

Reports said that if Micah Parsons was to get the coveted 0, the change would cost him roughly $1m!

Sounds like a lot, but when you break it down, it makes a lot of sense:

The NFL made $2.2b on jersey sales in 2022, 2/3rd’s of that go to the players, roughly 1700.

Doing some quick math, that’s roughly $850K per player, without considering how much sales will increase now that each NFL team has a new jersey available for fans to buy!

At the end of the year, if the hypothetical situation was to unfold and Micah Parsons was to fork over $1m for the number change, Parsons would come out -$150K in the hole. More than likely less, and he might even make a profit if merchandise sales boom!

Either way, it’s a great move by the NFL, the player’s association, and players who decide to make the switch—it will pay off in dividends for years to come!

Cowboys Pre-Draft Visits Adding Up

The Dallas Cowboys have been visiting prospects, as all NFL teams are doing!

Here is a list of the prospects the Cowboys have visited, or plan on visiting, plus their rank in brackets (via CBS):

(10) Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU

(40) Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State

(45) Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

(50) Steve Avila, OL, TCU

(83) Jaquelin Roy, DT, LSU

(105) Zach Evans, RB, Ole Miss

(131) Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami

(142) Marte Mapu, LB/S, Sacramento State

(157) Atonio Mafi, OL, UCLA

(192) Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss

(198) Brayden Willis, TE, Oklahoma

(201) Tanner McCalister, S, Ohio State

(246) Clayton Tune, QB, Houston

(270) Payne Durham, TE, Purdue

(307) Tyler Lacy, DL, Oklahoma State

Some names I like on this list, and mostly because I know who they are: Quentin Johnson would be a great pick if he makes it all the way down to 26th (could the Cowboys move up to catch him if he starts falling?); Avilia would be my second round selection between him, Forbes, and Downs; and Clayton Tune would be a great 6th or 7th round pick!
