Tyron Retires, Micah Waits, Dallas Teeters on Draft Day Meltdown | Weekly Round Up

🕊️ Tyron Smith Retires a Cowboy

Tyron Smith and Roger Goodell after Dallas Cowboys drafted Smith in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

The end of a Dallas Cowboys era is stamped as Tyron Smith signed a one-day contract to retire as a Cowboy. For over a decade, Smith was a wall and part of a dominating trio that included Travis Frederick and recent co-retiree Zack Martin. Quiet, dominant, and criminally underrated. No media hype, no diva moments — just straight dirty dawg trench work.

His retirement doesn’t just leave a hole in our heart — for anyone (like me) who was hoping Smith might return to Dallas, it leaves a hole on our roster. In a way, I got my wish; Tyron Smith will retire a Dallas Cowboy! Expect Jerry to give his big men (Smith and Martin) a big tribute this fall (and maybe a couple Ring of Honor nods, taboot!).

📉 Micah Shows Up, Even Without the Contract

Micah Parsons showed up to voluntary offseason workouts — no contract extension in place, no holdout drama, just pure, hard, big C swinging work. In an offseason full of question marks for the young Dallas star, that’s leadership.

The dude could’ve sat out and made a statement. Instead, he’s setting the tone for a defense that already leans on him like a crutch. Jerry, pay this man his money! Because if he walks? That’s going to be more than just a crack in our defense.

📈 Cowboys Face a Draft Dilemma: WR or Jeanty?

Ashton Jeanty answers questions at the 2025 NFL Combine.

Pick 12 is shaping up to be a pressure cooker for the Cowboys' front office. On one side, you’ve got an absolutely loaded WR class — Tetairoa McMillan, Luther Burden III, Emeka Egbuka, Mathew Golden — all high-ceiling guys who could light up the scoreboard next to CeeDee. But each one has a red flag: McMillan’s speed, Burden’s rawness, Egbuka’s injury history, and Golden’s size.

On the other side? Enter Ashton Jeanty — the Boise State bulldozer who had a sit-down with the salt bae himself, Jerry Jones. Word is, he left that convo talking Super Bowls. That seems probable. Jerry loves to talk about Super Bowls (but he just doesn’t like winning them). Jeanty runs angry, talks confident, and SHOULD walk onto any team as RB1, Day 1. He’s got Hall of Fame swagger and the tape to back it up. The only downside is the capital the Cowboys would have to give up, as Jeanty has climbed up to the top 10 in most mock drafts.

But if anyone is crazy enough to do it, it’s Salt Bae.

So here’s the choice: double down on a potential WR1 to electrify the air game, or hand the keys to a ground-and-pound machine with elite upside. WR or RB? Flash or fire? Draft night’s about to get spicy.

🔄 Stephen Jones Hints They May Trade Down

On the contrary, Stephen Jones recently said they’re more likely to stay put — or even trade down — than move up in the draft.

“[I] could see a situation where we’d move down. But you also look at that pick, and we’ve had some good things happen to us just outside of the top 10 with DeMarcus Ware (11th), Micah Parsons (12th) and Zack Martin (16th) — Hall of Fame-type players — that fall to you, and you just pick them. That very well could be the case in this draft.”

A move down would mean more picks, more options, and more risk — and not just upside risk, but risking a full on mutiny from Cowboys Nation! Especially if one of the elite WRs are still on the board. Some fans say this shows confidence in the scouting team. Others say it’s Jerry being cheap again. Either way, buckle up, because Draft Day could feature more sliding than a backyard slip 'n slide.
