Cowboys CanFan Weekly Wrap Up | April 8th, 2023

Dallas Cowboys 1st Round Draft Position Odds

If you did a vote at the end of the season, and repeated it right before the draft, you’d get a completely different response.

What’s the question? “What position will the Dallas Cowboys draft in the 1st round?”

This ain’t the Jones & Co.’s first rodeo. They know how to play the game. 26th is an awkward pick. You’re gonna reach, or trade up and lose something.

Put the idea of a trade in either direction aside, which I do think is very possible, the Dallas Cowboys play possum. Whether it be by dummy mistake, or a genius trojan horse to disrupt other teams, the Cowboys have ‘accidentally’ leaked their draft board a whopping 4 times since 2010.

Some call it stupid. I’m on the fence. It could be to throw off other teams. But all this leads to one question that still hasn’t been answered; what position, Jerry?!

Here’s what Cowboys Nation has to say so far…

The team seems to be booking a lot of visits with Wide Receivers, although with the Cooks trade on the books (hehehe), this isn’t as big of a need. Still, the Cowboys have 20% of their Top-30 Visit’s scheduled with WRs.

There’s a lot of chatter about Kincaid or Mayer coming to add to that receiving threat in the form of a well-rounded Tight End. I’m definitely on the outside looking in with my perspective on this pick; I like either of these TEs in the first; they add blocking support, they add a receiving threat.

The name of a solid, top tier Guard is who the majority of Cowboys Fans want to hear being called up to the stage on April 27th.

And of course, a defensive lineman or edge rusher is always on the list. I really don’t think this is smart because we have good depth and can probably get a solid interior defender later in the draft to compliment and learn under Jonathan Hankins. But as our boy @TonyGoatRomo says, and I’m paraphrasing, “You can never have too many edge rushers.”

CeeDee Lamb Rising To Challenge

Dallas Cowboys top wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, is taking his game to the next level. That’s the hope, anyway.

Lamb had the season we all needed him to have last year. Over 100 catches, over 1300 yards, and 9 touch downs.

But the dude wants more! He’s been working out with Nick Hicks, who trains Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, and ex-Dallas Cowboys Cederick Wilson.

The most intriguing thing to come out of this union is CeeDee’s comment to Hicks;

“I’m trying to get that open field work like you do with RBs bro, not just routes.”

I wanna see it. You wanna see it. We all wanna see it! If this off season training can help CeeDee Lamb improve on his performance from last year, who isn’t on board? Let’s goooooo!!!

Tolbert Is Getting a Second Chance

I get a bit of a bad taste in my mouth when I say this, but it needs to be said; Jalen Tolbert is getting a second chance. Not a clean slate. We need to see something this season. But he’s going to get a fair chance.

From me, from the CanFan boys, from the few rational Dallas Cowboys fans out there. We want to see Tolbert succeed, and what won it over for me was his attitude about how he played last season.

DeMarcus Ware Selects Jerry Jones as Presenter

Congratulations to Dallas Cowboys great DeMarcus Ware! The all time sack leader for the Dallas Cowboys will be welcomed into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton on August 5th, and Ware has selected Jerry Jones as his presenter.

A nice, wholesome moment. Jerry’s still got it!

Aldon Smith Sentenced to 1 Year in Jail

What was once a bright NFL future, has concluded with a 1 year jail sentence that will effectively end the career of Aldon Smith.

This sentence dates back to a DUI charge from 2021, where he crashed into another vehicle, causing injuring to that driver.

After being released from the Seattle Seahawks in the 2020 preseason, Aldon Smith never found his way on to another team.

A sad end, but hopefully Smith will be able to create a life for himself and those who need him when he’s a free man.

4 T's and Z On the Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line

Four T’s and a Z will be the ones who protect Dak Prescott from ruthless defenders in 2023… Unless the Dallas Cowboys draft an o-line stud, as they are inclined to do!

But for now, Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin, and Terence Steele are the front five on the offensive line.

There are definitely some concerns here.

Tyron Smith has a hard time playing a full season, but when he’s on the field, he is dyn-o-mite!

Tyler Smith has proven himself to be efficient at both Tackle and Guard, which has been a blessing and makes the injury history of Tyron a little less of a bite.

Tyler Biadasz has not gotten the credit he deserves (or I haven’t heard it), but he’s an unrestricted free agent next season!

Zack Martin is just a legend. He’s getting up there in age, but he’s perennially one of the best at his position.

And Terence Steele was having the season of his career in 2022 before being injured.

All this goes to show you that although we have a strong front 5, we need depth. Drafting two offensive linemen is on my personal to-do list, but if we picked up a veteran and drafted a rookie, I’d be satisfied that way, also, too, as well.
